The Holiday with a Difference
While we know that touring is a very acceptable form of pleasure, we also know that some enjoy cycling with the comfort of a fixed base. The Fixed Based Holiday option blends the beauty of cycling with guaranteed comfort and enjoyment. To cycle alongside lagoons, enjoy historic architecture and capture the warmth of the sun adds comfort to the fact you are being cared for in very comfortable accommodation.
Many customers are already aware of the fantastic cycling opportunities in Spain and especially around the nature reserves and typical Spanish villages who boast about their relaxed hospitality. The Tourist Office in Rosas has cycling maps along with walking maps.
For non cyclists there are buses from the centre to Figueras, Cadaqués (or you can get there by boat) as well as other destinations. You can walk to the Marina in Empuria Brava along the long promenade or take the Rosas Express Cultural Tourist Train to Cap de Creus Nature Park. Alternatively just relax by the pool or go for a swim in the sea.
Hotel Marian Platja*** has 145 rooms, two lifts, a swimming pool, tennis courts, evening entertainment, money exchange and each room has a phone, fridge, hairdryer, T.V. and balcony, as well as your own private toilet/shower. Sea view rooms are also available as a supplement for a fantastic view of the Bay of Rosas. WiFi is available. There are also 2 tennis courts at the rear.
The Hotel staff are exceptional and many have been there for a number of years. They can give you a detailed overview of how the Hotel Marian Platja operates and there is the opportunity to ask questions about your stay at the Hotel where you can book boat trips to Cadaqués. Some of the novel perks to the Hotel Marian include being able to swap your evening meal for a lunch or getting your bottle of wine from the evening meal kept and named for you to enjoy the following evening - that is of course unless you finish it! There is also a hotel bar open all sociable hours of the day at the front of the hotel alongside the swimming pool overlooking the Sea. The staff are excellent, offer a friendly service and will do everything they can to accommodate your requests. On some evenings there is entertainment, where everyone can get up and dance.
Bike Storage Facilities
The Hotel Marian Platja has two secure cycling rooms (which can be seen by flicking through the images above). The rooms are easily accessible but built into the hotel for security and are locked at all times. They also offer a compressor for quickly inflating bike tyres and bike washing facilities for the end of the day. The bike rooms are also alarmed from 21:00 to 07:00 however if you are particularly keen and want to make an early start (or even a late finish), you can arrange for the receptionist to come and let you in.
Santa Margarita - The Bay of Rosas in Spain is of particular interest but there are many interesting places within easy cycling distance. For non cyclists, the area has much to offer and it is therefore perfectly possible for an avid cyclist with a non cycling partner to both have an enjoyable time. Many customers are aware of the fantastic cycling opportunities in Spain especially around the nature reserves and typical Spanish villages boasting relaxing hospitality.
The cycling in this area is very diverse. For example, those who like to ride long distances can explore the regions of the Pyrenees Mountains or the fascinating nature reserves of Emporda where there are around 330 species of birds nesting in the area. For those who prefer short distances, Empuria Brava or Rosas is only a short ride safely along flat paths from the hotel. There is also the Bay of Canyelles only a little further afield, just beyond the far edge of the Bay of Rosas from the front of the hotel which offers a small but beautifully picturesque hidden turquoise bay. These are only a few of the many ideas for cycle routes in the area that you may well hear from the experienced Fixed Bike Express travellers!
There are some very good routes as well along quiet roads towards the French Border and through the National Park area of Cap de Creus towards Cadaques, Llanca, Portbou and the lower slopes of the Pyrenees. You may wish to cycle south to L'Escala and through large flat areas abundant with fruit orchards. Alternatively you can see the sites inland by riding to Figueres and beyond to Banyoles and the surrounding volcanic Natural Park and then up to the Pyrenees.
